Quip Text pictures leaked (quiptxt photos)

Quip Text was a popular iPhone application which could be used for sending pics cheaply. As it turned out later, most of the pictures was nude or semi-nude camera photos from the phone.

Back in November last year it was posted on Digg.com that these pictures was actually accessible for everybody - not just the sender and receiver of the iPhone photos!

So my friend sent a picture to me using Quip for the iPhone and the programmer in me noticed something. Using just the base URL and 5 random letters/digits, one can find all sorts of picture messages sent with iPhones through the Quip app that were never meant to be seen. Oh, when will they learn!

For several months this went practically unnoticed by anyone else but the most alert nerds, who had fun with watching random strangers private iPhone pictures.

On March 28 someone at Reddit.com posted the secret, and now the cat was out of the bag! Within a couple of hours the users at reddit found the most sleazy pictures and shared them in the comment thread. The news spread fast and the owners of Quip Text quickly responded by taken down their service (the massive traffic had actually already made the server unreachable).
The owners responded to Reddit with this message:

Hello, this is Ish, the founder of Addy Mobile, makers of the Quip app.
As soon as this post came to our attention, we immediately shut down our servers. We have also now disabled all S3 access and have started to systematically secure all files in the system. We will not bring the system back up until we have adequate security around all files shared over Quip.
I apologize to our users for this security breach and promise we will do everything in our power to make sure none of their information is exposed once we bring the service back up.
The vision for Quip has always been to provide users a quick, simple, and affordable way for iPhone users to send picture messages without paying exorbitant carrier fees. We are a small company (3 people) but we will work as quickly as possible to bring back the service up in a safe and secure manner. -Ish
